Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Orman Esim has said that his ministry has taken steps to launch new Applications on Social Media that will enable tourists anywhere in the world to access the culture and tourism sites of the state with ease.
Mr. Esin who disclosed this in his address at the ceremony marking this year’s World Tourism Day in the state, said the website will equally show, just at a click of the button, the Akwa Ibom cuisines and how to prepare it.
His words, “When you click on the website, it will take you to every tourism site and delicacy as well as cuisine and even how to prepare it. It will also be possible to book for hotels accommodation in the state online.”
Orman explained that the vision which aimed at marketing and showcasing the state tourism sector of the economy and moving it forward, is to ensure the international best practices.
He noted that Akwa Ibom is endowed with abundant tourism potentials which are found in the State rich cultural heritage, exquisite cuisine, folklore, dance, drama, artifacts and crafts.
These endowment are further fortified in the State’s rich sand beaches, slave trade relics, sprawling numerous hotels, hospitality outfits and recreational centres among others, he added.
On the essence of the theme of this year’s celebration, “Tourism and its Jobs, a Better Future for All”, Mr. Esin said is captured to reflect on the importance of tourism to global well-being in terms of job creation, socio-economy, cultural and political value vis-à-vis the world at large.
In his address also, the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Hotels Management and Tourism Board, Mr. Ini Akpabio said the floating of Ibom Airline has created unhindered movement for tourists to Akwa Ibom.
He added that the reconstruction and rehabilitation of eight tertiary hospitals and equipping them with modern facilities an the appointment of efficient management team for Ibom Specialist Hospital and good road network linking the 31 local government areas of the State are pointers to tourists or any visitor to Akwa Ibom that the State is ready for them.
Mr. Akpabio also said that “Akwa Ibom State’s pedigree in emerging the Overall Best at the African Festival of Arts and Culture Exhibition in 2015, the hosting of the 29th edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture in 2016; yearly Akwa Ibom Christman Carol Festival, among other activities have placed Akwa Ibom on the world tourism map.”
He called on people of the State to buy-in into, be players and not spectators of the various windows of opportunities that are being created in the tourism sector to improve on their economic lives.
According to him, “More people coming to the State means increase demand for food, local transport, hotels accommodation, demand for arts and craft, relaxation centres and sundry services,” thus generating the much desire job opportunities.
