Ahead of the Ekiti State Local Government elections billed for December 7, the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC), Justice Jide Aladejana, has solicited for the supports of the political parties that have indicated interest to participate in the election.
Aladejana told the political parties that the commission is ready to conduct free, credible and fair local government elections in the state.
He enjoined them to have confidence in the commission towards the conduct of credible local government poll.
The EKSIEC boss also assured them of credible poll and said all their agitations would be looked into by the commission for necessary consideration.
Aladejana gave the assurance on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti while addressing stakeholders meeting held with political parties, security agencies as well as other relevant agencies in the state.
Out of the 48 political parties existing in the state 34 attended the meeting and were given guidelines of the election.
“We have listened to the contributions from all the representatives of the political parties present as well as the security agencies we will comply and provide a level playing ground, we want to assure them that we will conduct credible polls” he stated.
Aladejana enjoined all the political parties in the state to participate fully in the conduct of the election and urged them to shun any activities that may jeopadise the smooth conduct of the exercise.
He disclosed that the commission had concluded plan to listen to all agitations from various sectors and provide possible solutions before the conduct of the exercise.
Among the agitations discussed with the commission by the political parties include free and fair elections, reduction of tax clearance, monitisation of election and safety of the electorates among others.
Speaking at the meeting, the General Secretary, Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Hon. Ifedayo Iyaniwura, said the meeting was convened to discuss grey areas bordering the political parties in respect of the forthcoming council poll in the state.
Iyaniwura, who is also the State Chairman of the National Democratic Liberty Party (NDLP) said the political parties in attendance demanded from the EKSIEC free and fair elections.
“We agitated from EKSIEC to conduct free and fair election and it promised to do so and we are standing on their words.
“The election is very paramount to us (parties) in Ekiti state, all we want is peace, free and credible exercise “
Also speaking at the meeting, the chairman of Ekiti Patriotic Movement (EPM) Deacon Lanre Anifowose, commended EKSIEC for organising the meeting aimed at brainstorming on the success of the election.
He admonished the commission to organise more sensitization and awareness programmes before the conduct of the election, saying the move would further make the exercise a credible one.
Several speakers who spoke during the meeting,tasked EKSIEC to be transparent and conduct free and credible election.
