A 2x60kva Power Plant expected to give uninterrupted power supply to five local government areas in Akwa Ibom State is ready for commissioning as part of the activities to mark the 32nd anniversary of the state creation.
The plant which is situated at Ekim in Itu Local Government Area of the state, will be inaugurated by Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on the 21st of this month.
State governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel announced this on Sunday in Uyo, during a special prayer service to rededicate the people and government to God as the state clocks 32 years of statehood in Nigeria.
Governor Emmanuel also stated that, Vice President Osinbajo will during the visit, commission other viable economic projects initiated by the state government within the past four years in the state.
The Governor called on Akwa Ibom people to rededicate themselves to God by shunning every evil tendency that will draw back the development of the state.
He attributed the level of development the state has attended at 32 to God, whose name, the state Akwa-Abasi Ibom is named after.
The special prayer service which had as its theme “For I Believe in God” was organised by the state government in conjunction with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at government house banquet hall ground in Uyo.
The service which attracted people from all spheres of human endeavours, including politicians, religious leaders and traditional rulers, witnessed prayers, praise and worship to God aimed to herald God’s mercy and sufficiency as the state enters 32 years of her creation on 23rd of this month.
State government had last week in release signed by Commissioner for in Information, Mr. Charles Udoh, declared fast on Sunday and called on people of the state to observe the fast and pray for the continue peace and development of the state in particular and Nigeria in general.
Akwa Ibom state was created from former Cross River state on September 23rd 1987 by former President Ibrahim Babangida military regime alongside Katsina which was created from former Kaduna state.
