The main thrust of the five days warning strike embarked upon by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) falls on the non implementation of the SSANU/FGN 2009 agreement.
Comrade Iliyasu Abdurra’uf Bello Chairman SSANU/ABU Zaria disclosed this at a press briefing held at the union’s Secretariat in main campus, Samaru.
He lamented that 10 years into the agreement, the better part of the agreement remained unattended to by the Federal Government.
The Chairman further stated that the most worrisome aspect of the agreement is the recent N25 billion release by the Federal Government to Universities to defray part of the outstanding Earned Allowances where only 20% of the said amount was allocated to the non teaching staff while 80% to the teaching staff.
According to him this singular act by the government is only embarrassing to the non teaching staff of the Universities but is insulting, unfair and unacceptable.
On the issue of the industrial court ruling in Abuja that, it is the responsibilities of the Federal Government to handle the recurrent and capital expenditure of University Staff School which is yet to complete with the court ruling about three years ago which is part of the reason for the five days warning strike.
Comrade Bello urged the Federal Government to see to the demands of the SSANU before the warning strike would snowball Into indefinite, comprehensive and total strike.
