Streams of messages of felicitation from governments, individual well wishers and corporate bodies have been flowing to the uphill residence of Nigeria’s former Military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida as he clocks 78 years.
Acting governor of Niger State, Ahmed Mohammed Ketso had on behalf of the people and government of Niger State described General Babangida as an iconic leader whose contributions to the development of Nigeria remains unparalleled.
The acting governor said the former military President occupies a special place in Nigeria’s modern history and an unequalled record of stewardship in the building process for the unity of Nigeria as one indivisible entity.
He urged leaders and politicians to emulate the sterling leadership qualities of the military General whose stewardship, while in office as Head of State over two and half decades ago, have, till date continued to be reference point.
In a statement he issued in Minna to mark the 78th birthday of the former President, Ketso paid glowing tributes to Babangida even as he prayed for more stronger, healthier and fruitful years for the former military President.
He said twenty six years after General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida had quit the stage as Nigeria’s leader, his legacies and footprint were eloquently visible across the country.
In a similar vein, the Senator representing Niger East District, (Niger zone B) at the National Assembly, Senator Sani Musa, (Sani 313) has eulogized the former military ruler as he clocks 78 years.
Senator Sani Musa said in a message of felicitation to the erstwhile leader, that “Babangida is a nation builder who has continued to contribute immensely to the peace and development of Nigeria”.
He said General Babangida’s place in Nigeria’s history would remain ever green as he continues to champion the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria, saying the former military President has proved himself a patriot and a leader indeed.
As General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida marks his 78th birthday, friends, associates and well wishers have been praying for a better health and longevity of life for him.
The former leader has of recent been keeping a relatively sedentary life style even as he continues to play host to leaders and politicians on visits to his Hilltop residence on homage.
Earlier this month, the former military President had received the leadership and minority caucus of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) at the House of Representatives led by Hon. Ndudi Elumelu who led other members of the PDP’s caucus at the lower chamber of the National Assembly during their visit to him.
