The Emir of Keffi, in Nasarawa State HRH Dr Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, has called for the total ban on street begging nationwide.
Yamusa, a first class monarch in Nasarawa State made the call during the week.
According to him, “a situation where children are being used for begging under the guise of Almajiri system is not just condemnable, but should be banned in the country.”Recalled that Street begging has come under fire in recent times with many Nigerians rendering their voices against it saying that the system does not conform to the teaching of Islam.Recalled also that efforts have been put forward especially by the past administration of President Goodluck  Jonathan to curtail the menace by building schools for almajiris but all fell on rocky ground. Now with the outcry from one of the custodians of the religion, Nigeria may witness a positive turn on the system.
