Five communities in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State are to benefit from the ongoing electrification project by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The benefiting communities, include Kube, Panda, Tudun Uku, Guduma and Ungwar Sarkin Mada will be connected to the National Grid when completed.
The project is said to be one of the constituency projects facilitated by Honourable Gaza Gbefwi, member representing Karu/Keffi/Kokona federal constuency at the National Assembly (NASS).
Other projects captured in this year’s budget include skills acquisition progamme, school/clinic renovation among others.
Recalled that the Chairman of the area, Honourable Samuel Akala had earlier visited the agency to appeal for the provision of electricity to some communities. According to the Council Boss, the move would add value to the lives of residents and also boost socioeconomic activities.
He also charged the agency to expedite action for the speedy completion of the ongoing electrification project in Panda and environs.
Speaking, Engr. Mohammed A. Wasaram (Ex. Director, Technical Services), said part of the agency’s mandate is to see to the electrification of all rural communities in Nigeria.
Wasaram who spoke on behalf of the Managing Director expressed readiness of the agency to partner with the government of the Council to connect some of its major communities to the National Grid.
He disclosed that five (5) projects has been allocated to Karu by the leadership of the national assembly in its 2019 projects execution plans.
The Agency also said it would restore power to the council’s Secretariat which has been running on generator for the past months to lessen the financial burden on the council.
