The Police Officers Wives Association, (POWA) Kaduna Chapter, on Wednesday 7, August, 2019 donated food items to support 367 widows whose husband died in active service .
The POWA has also concluded arrangements to enrol some of the widows in skill acquisition that will help them sustain themselves and their children.
Speaking during the presentation of the food items to the Wives, the Chairlady Kaduna Police Officers Wives Association, Dr Habiba Janga assured of the commitment of her association to empower them.
She added that they can even go back to their villages and farm because they are ready to help them in every endeavour.
According to Mrs. Janga, the purpose of the programme is to help the women whose husbands have died while in service and that the funds used for the donation came from within the Police.
She however, called on the wealthy individual in state and country to always support the less privileged, noting reaching out to people no matter how small, means a lot.
“Let’s learn how to support one another because some people commit suicide out of hunger” she stressed.
Dr. Habiba appealed to the Kaduna State Government to also help in enpowering these widows who are in large number.
In his remarks the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna Command Ali Janga said this is not the first time they are doing this kind of program to mobilise widows of the police and support them.
Janga assured the widows that the support will continue quarterly.
“The next time we will do it, we will involve the government, other NGOs and other stakeholders to support in order to encourage these widows” he assured.
The items donated include, bags of rice, cartons of instant noodles, detergents, soaps, wrappers and seasoning.
