Two Killed, Others Injured In Ibadan As Mining Site Caves In

No fewer than two mining  workers met their untimely  death on Monday at Ologuneru area of Ibadan, when the  quarry mining site cave-in and trapped them to death

New Nigerian gathered that two other workers at the mining site sustained serious injuries while attempting to escape from the site.

It was gathered that troubled started around 2.48pm when part of the quarry mining site suddenly caved in resulting in confusion in and around the area during which some of the residents in the area  quickly alerted the security agencies .

According to the  Oyo state sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp, Corps Commander, Chukwurah Uche, officials of the FRSC were alerted by the residents of the area around 3pm that a quarry had caved-in and two people lost their lives.

Corps Commander Uche said, “we evacuated their corpses to a mortuary while the third person who sustained injury was taken to the hospital,” .

Sources at the site said the people were at the mining site packing sand into a truck when the heap of sand which is about two-storey building high, suddenly caved in and covered them .

It was learnt that it took the rescue team comprising of men of the  FRSC,  the Nigerian Police and National Emergency Management Agency about an hour before concluding the rescue operation.

Oyo state Police Public  Relations  Officer, (PPRO) SP Lawrence  Fadeyi when contacted said the  DPO at Eleyele with his men are presently investigating the matter.
