National Chairman, Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria Nigeria (GAFDAN), Alh Sale Bayari, has dissociated the association from what he described as unauthorised, unilateral and embarrassing press statement the National Secretary, Alh Ibrahim Abdullahi issued, condemning the chairman, Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Professor Ango Abdullahi for advising the Fulani herdsmen in the Southern part of the country to consider returning to the North.
GAFDAN National Secretary, Alh Ibrahim Abdullahi, was alleged to have given a press statement to a national newspaper, where he condemned the chairman of the NEF, Professor Ango Abdullahi for advising the Fulani herdsmen in the Southern part of the country to consider returning to the North where their safety would be guaranteed if it is not assured in the South.
Alh Sale Bayari, National Chairman, GAFDAN, in a statement he issued Saturday evening, said, the association wishes to dissociate from the unauthorised, unilateral and embarrassing press statement the National Secretary, Alh Ibrahim Abdullahi granted the The NATION Newspaper of Saturday, 20 July, 2019,published in its front page where he condemned the respected chairman of the Northern Elders Forum(NEF) for advising the Fulani herdsmen in the Southern part of the country to consider returning to the North where their safety would be guaranteed if indeed it is not assured in the South.
“To set the records straight, the Secretary who had no mandate or authorization to take such a position without clarification from the association’s national chairman went ahead to speak on such a burning national issue without clearance.
“I want to state categorically that the GAFDAN was not only fully briefed about the matter, it was fully involved in all the deliberations of NEF and its final decision and position on the issue. That decision by the NEF was taken in good faith and conscience.” He said.
He said it was a great patriotic and nationalistic call by elder statesmen as headed by Professor Ango Abdullahi.
He explained that the problems confronting the nation today transcends all political and pecuniary interests of what he calls some dubious and unpatriotic Nigerians who are out to sacrifice the nation for their pockets, within and outside the government.
“We are happy to know that from the day the NEF made that statement, which was followed by Mr President’s declaration that all Nigerians had the right to move and settle freely in any part of the country and be protected by the security agencies, we have witnessed the down turn and cessation of hostilities in some communities of the South.
“To us, this is a way forward and we thank the President for taking this timely response and reassurance. We also welcome the response from our compatriot associations from the South that have been calling for peace and dialogue with NEF. This is unprecedented and highly welcome by NEF as body of responsible elders.
“Under these circumstances how could GAFDAN disassociate itself from this noble and responsible call which has so drastically reduced our Fulani herdsmen chances of being attacked or even killed,” he wondered.
