Tragedy struck along Omi Adio, Ibadan, axis of the Ibadan- Abeokuta expressway on Tuesday when a middle aged pregnant woman was burnt to death in a ghastly motor accident.
New Nigerian gathered that about eight others sustained severe injuries when they were trapped in the liteace commercial bus conveying them from Apata to Omi Adio, along the expressway.
Eye witness accounts said trouble started when the commercial bus reportedly
developed mechanical issue when its shaft pulled off, causing the driver to lose control and ran into a ditch after somersaulting several times.
The eye witness said while the passengers in the commercial bus reported to be about ten were attempting to escape from the wrecked bus, it suddenly went up in flames, thereby trapping the occupants and that the pregnant woman said to be seating in the front of the bus became unconscious and later died in the bus.
It was learnt that it was a combined team of officers from the Apata, Ibadan unit of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), and police officers from the traffic section of the Omi Adio, Ibadan Divisional Police Station that evacuated the victims of the accident from the deep valley where the bus was trapped.
As at the time of sending this story, those with burns injuries were receiving treatment at the Alaafia Hospital, Apata where they were rushed to while the dead body of the pregnant woman was said to have been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital Morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan.
