Five persons are now in police custody in Lagos over alleged lynching of a 22 year old man wrongly accused of stealing mobile phone.
The deceased identified as Olamide Omolegbe of GRA, Abidjan, was said to have been beaten to death by four out of the suspects following an alarm raised by the owner of a soft drink shop one Bolanle Mohammed that the victim stole her phone.
Identified as  Wasiu Wahab,  Ramon Ibrahim , Junior Adebayo and Yusuf Adegbite, the suspects were alleged to have thrown the corpse of the deceased into the Lagoon after certifying that he was dead.
Following a tip, it was gathered that the body was recovered  on 10th July, 2019 at Obadore Jetty by a team of detectives from Lagbasa Police Station led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Ada Okafor and deposited at Mainland Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
Consequently, the owner of the shop, who raised the false alarm were arrested by the detectives and the four suspects.
Our correspondent learnt that one of the suspects, Wasiu Wahab said to be the principal murder suspect and Yusuf Adegbite were arrested inside the lagoon where they hid themselves in order to evade arrest.
The police public relations officer of the Command DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed the gruesome murder said the incident occurred at about 8.00pm on July 8th, 2019.
He disclosed that Investigation revealed that the phone was actually stolen by the son of the woman who wrongly accused the deceased person, adding that suspects confessed to the commission of the crime.
Elkana hnted that the Commissioner of Police Lagos State,  Zubairu Muazu
 has ordered the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department Panti to take over the investigation and ensure a diligent prosecution of the suspects.
The release reads ” On 09 /07/2019 at about 11:30am, Langbasa Police Station received a complaint that on  08/07/2019 at about 08:00pm, one Olamide Omolegbe ‘m’ 22years old of G.R.A, Abidjan was killed. The deceased person was accused of stealing a phone by one Bolanle Muhammed ‘f’ in her soft drink shop at Bodore, Ajah.
The false alarm she raised led to the beating and killing of the victim by the following persons: Wasiu Wahab ‘m’, Ramon Ibrahim ‘m’, Junior Adebayo ‘m’ and Yusuf Adegbite ‘m’. The four persons actually beat up the guy and when he was dead ,they threw him into the lagoon.
His body was recovered by a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Ada Okafor on 10/07/2019 at Badore Jetty and deposited at Mainland Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
Five suspects including the woman who raised the false alarm were arrested. Wasiu Wahab who is the principal murder suspect and Yusuf Adegbite were arrested inside the lagoon where they hid themselves in order to evade arrest.
The Investigation revealed that the phone was actually stolen by the son of the woman who wrongly accused the deceased person. The suspects confessed to the commission of the crime.
