The Super Eagles of Nigeria were denied a chance to book a final spot in the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations by Algeria in one of the semi final matches played on Sunday.

The Algerian national team won the game 2-1 after a late winner was scored courtesy of a controversial free kick awarded in the 90th minute of the match.

Earlier, Algeria took the lead in the first half courtesy of an own goal from a defensive error from Nigeria’s Ekong.

Orion Ighalo equalised for Nigeria in the 72nd minute after converting a penalty awarded to Nigeria, when an Algerian player handled the ball in the 18-yard box.

Both teams missed several other chances, before Algeria converted the free kick close to Nigeria’s 18-yard box in the 89th minute.

Algeria will now face Senegal, who courtesy of a lone goal in the extra time in a match played earlier edged out another North African Team, Tunisia to book final spot.
