Stay Away From Drugs, Other Vices, Cleric Urges Students

The Parish Priest of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, New Nyanya in Nasarawa State, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Soja-Anyembugu, has advised students to shun drug abuse, examination malpractice, cultism and other behaviour that would negatively affect their education.
Soja-Anyembugu, made the call Friday, after taking over as the Spiritual Patron of National Association of North Central Students (NANCS) in Karu, Nasarawa State.
He urged the students to be good ambassador of their families and schools by shunning vices.
According to him, indulging in such vices had affected the education and lives of many Nigerian students and the society negatively.
Speaking further, the cleric advised them to be serious in their academic pursuit in order to justify their parents/government huge invest in their education in their own interest.
“I want to thank Almighty God and you for appointing and installing me as your spiritual patron and I am assuring you of my support and prayers to take your association to the greater height.
“My advice to you and other students is to be good ambassadors of  your respective  schools and to shun social vices in your interest and to move the North Central zone and Nigeria to greater height.
“This is because, no society would achieve meaningful progress without sound education and it is the leeway to success in life and a route to escape from poverty box,” he said.
The Spiritual Father also advised Nigerian students to remain at all time peaceful and tolerate one another considering the importance of peace and tolerance to societal development.
The clergy further advised the students and other Nigerians to be law abiding and respect constituted authorities for the progress and development of the country at large.
Earlier, Mr Aji Ibrahim, the National President of the association said that they have decided to installed Soja-Anyembugu as the Spiritual Patron of the association considering his contribution to the development of the education sector and the society at large.
“National Association of North Central Students (NANC) is a students wing under National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) charged with the responsibility of regulating the activities of Students of North Central geopolitical extraction of Nigeria,” he said.
He urged the cleric not to relent in his efforts in assisting the students and the less privileged ones in the society.
