Counsel to Governor Simon Lalong, Pius Akubo, SAN and the lead counsel to the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Garba Pwul SAN, have accused their counterparts standing in for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of delaying proceedings on the ongoing governorship tribunal in Plateau State.
The lead counsels to APC and Simon Lalong made their position known in an interview with journalists, shortly after the tribunal went into a short break during Wednesday’s sitting in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
It would be recalled that PDP and its candidate had filed a petition at the governorship tribunal, challenging the declaration of the APC candidate, Barr. Simon Lalong, as governor of Plateau State in the 2019 governorship elections.
Barrister Garba Pwul, said his fellow legal team were prepared to prosecute the case, within the time frame, but PDP Lawyers are delaying the process.
Responding to the accusations, Counsel to the petitioner, the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Barr. Mike Ozekhome, (SAN) said they will ensure that the tribunal does not extend its stipulated period of 180 days.
Barrister Ozekhome told journalists during the interview that his clients have 66 witnesses, and so far tender 106 documents to prove their case before the tribunal.
The PDP lead counsel argued that his team are adhering strictly to the 40 days provisions; that all documents be filed to the tribunal and marked.
He said PDP and its candidate have a good case, he prayed the tribunal to uphold the tenets of its establishment and accord justice to who deserves.
Barrister Ozekhome however said he has confidence in the tribunal.
