Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai of Kaduna State, on Friday called on new Commissioners to be committed in areas of their job description to meet up the needs of the people in the state.
el-Rufai expressed this during the swearing-in at the Chambers of Kaduna State Government House in Kaduna.
He emphasised the need to put the people first.
Speaking on equal opportunities, he said the state will promote equality and reforms to strengthen the public service.
el-Rufai assured the people of the state that he will expand quality education, administrative officer’s, public service and welfare of the people.
“This will be done only on merits, the goals will be achieved by the Grace of God,” he prayed.
On the welfare of the people, he said the state Government will allow ordinary people to have access to own houses.
“All citizens will own houses across the state. We have put in place a mortgage system so that all residents in the state can afford houses and pay for 15 to 20 years.”
He added that, they shall expand the programme for women empowerment.
“Last year, the sum of N200 million was disbursed, this year will be N400 million to empower the women to be self reliant,” he added.
He said that the state government shall support the initiative of job creation.
“The agencies will also work to retain the world ranking critical to creation of jobs.”
On progress so far, he said, they have recently launched the urban dualization by investing on roads all over the state with State Development Plan.
The State Governor emphasised on the restructuring of the ministries as each of the 14 ministries have been designed to meet up with the agenda to help drive the government’s agenda.
Saying in line with the Presidency, they have appointed commissioners to work with the entire state as they choose insiders with solid experience and capacity to work for the state, describing that some appointees have chosen to humble themselves to serve while he wished them well.
El-Rufai said that each of the commissioners and management of ministries will receive their job description and performance agreement with the Permanent Secretaries.
“All the Directors are subjected to receive quarterly reviews,” he instructed.
He called on family, members and associates to support them saying they are to work day and night urging them not to pressurise them but to encourage them to succeed.
El-Rufai, congratulated them, and prayed Almighty God to help and guide them in their civic responsibilities.
Earlier, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe urged them to put the people first as they know the value of people.
Adding that Kaduna State is the centre of learning, they are to critically look at those things to make up their minds and deliver their best and look forward to ways to the next level.
Hadiza urged them to look on their job description based on trust while she prayed for capacity to do their best.
