Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Habu Adamu Sani has counseled the Federal Government to empower all security agencies to enable them curb the excesses of terrorists.
The agencies include the Police, Military, Operatives of the Directorate of Security Service, and the Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).
Sani gave the advice Thursday at a community dialogue for traditional and religious leaders in Bauchi, on preventing and countering violent extremism, organized by Bauchi State Network of Civil Society Organizations (BASNEC).
The commissioner was represented by his deputy, Adamu Aliyu who said that all security agencies complement the work of one another, hence the need for paying maximum attention to all of them, saying one institution alone ‘cannot win the war’.
Mr. Habu Sani commended BASNEC for organizing the dialogue, stressing that it was timely, and could help in promoting unity and peaceful co-existence among adherents of various faiths residing in the state.
Also speaking, the BASNEC Chairman, Jinjiri Garba said that the purpose of the event was to bring stakeholders together to rub minds on how to manage conflicts within their communities.
He explained that representatives of various security outfits were invited to present lectures to the participants on security tips, peace and conflict resolution.
Jinjiri disclosed that 90 participants drawn from different religious groups and community leaders were attending the dialogue, and urged them to change their mindsets, know how to counter extremism, and serve as ambassadors of peace in their communities.
