Weeklong Verification For Retiring FG Employees Ends In Bauchi

A weeklong verification exercise for Federal Government employees from treasury funded ministries, departments and agencies will end on Friday.

The exercise is meant for employees in the services of the federal government who are due to retire between January and December 2020 by virtue of attaining 60 years of age or 35 years in service

Being undertaken by the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), the exercise is also meant for employees of 65 years by age for employees of tertiary institutions or 70 years of age for professors.

It is envisaged that about 700 employees will be captured in the verification exercise geared to facilitate the payment of their retirement benefits.

A statement by the commission’s head of corporate communication department, Mr. Peter Aghahowa had earlier requested the being verified employees to produce originals and copies of letters of appointment, birth certificate, evidence of promotion as at 2004, as well as evidence of transfer of service & acceptance where applicable.

They are also to produce letter of indemnity from their respective MDAs stating non-payment of retirement benefits, evidence of registration with a Pension Fund Administrator indicating retirement saving accounts personal identification number, evidence of National Identification number and evidence of Bank verification number.

The commission has in its efforts to ensure a successful and hitch-free exercise requires the presence of at least one Pension Desk Officer (PDO) from each MDA to assist in identifying potential retirees, as well as confirm the authenticity of the documents presented by the employees.

The statement explained that potential retirees who are medically unfit are exempted from the exercise, but require their PDO come with their documents and a letter from a suitable qualified physician or medical board certifying that the affected employees are not physically or mentally capable of carrying out the exercise.

Mr. Peter Aghahowa who advised all prospective federal government retirees to take part in the exercise as it is a precondition for the payment of their retirement benefits, saying the exercise at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi is for FG retirees in Bauchi, Yobe and Borno states.
