Determined to revive cotton farming in the country, the Federal Government on Wednesday supplied seventy seven bags and cartons of cotton seedlings, fertilizer and insecticides to farmers in Kebbi.
Speaking to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, National Chairman of Cotton Farmers Association (NACOTAN) in the state, Alhaji Abdulmumini Mohammed Jega stated that about eleven thousand farmers has benefited from the gesture
Represented by NACOTAN Co-coordinator of Birnin Kebbi Local Government, Jega warned beneficiaries for lukewarm attitude when they receive the commodities noting that NACOTAN Officials will visit farmers at their respective farms to ensure compliance in the usage of commodities given to them..
Accoding to him, each farmer will receive seven bags and cartoons of seedlings, fertilizer and insecticides to boost his/her cotton farming in the state aimed at bringing to an end the use of nylons in the cotton industries in the country.
“Before Nigeria was producing cotton but later stopped so now the present administration has decided to bring back this important crop in the country so that our cotton industries will stop using nylon in producing clothing materials.
“We thank the Federal government and Kebbi State for supplying this important commodities to our farmers whom now were sitting idle in the state”, he added.

Malam Umar of Tudun-Wada Area called on the Federal Government for sustaining of the scheme.
