Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gusau, Zamfara State chapter has began three days warning strike over the poor facility of the hospital.
Addressing journalists at the hospital premises in Gusau today, the President of the association, Dr Asogwa Emmanuel said the decision to embark on the warning was borne out of the their desire to provide qualitative medical services to patients of the hospital.
“The ARD hereby declare a three day immediate warning strike to let the populace about the fast deteriorating state of health care delivery in our institution and to urge the populace to bear with the association for taking this unavailable decision that we believe, that is a step in the right direction towards improving health care delivery”, he said .
The association said the defense put on by the Head of Clinical Services, Dr Garba Hamza during the meeting between management and ARD as regard the state of emergency points in the institution as unacceptable and condemnable defense that lacks substance in the recent view of the emergency points.
The association lamented the lackadaisical attitudes of the management towards the fast deteriorating conditions of facilities in the institution.
“Emergency responses to emergency cases, quality health care delivery to the populace, man power as regard to pediatrics department, availability of emergency medications, availability of basic resuscitative equipments and availability of ventilators and other life supporting equipment in our intensive care unit”, he said.
The association also condemn the recent employment of nine house officers as against the usual 12 house officers, insisting that the institution is trending the path of regression instead of progressing.
“We humbly draw the attention of the management to the Consultant house officers ratio 1:4, from our statistical data there are about 19 consultants in the four core departments where house rotates, hence 76 house officers ideally should be the required number, however ARD demand employment of nothing less than 24 house officers”, he said.
The Medical Director, Dr Kabir Anka was said to be attending meeting as at the time of filling this report.
