A former staff of the defunct Newswatch Magazine, Mr. Emmanuel Effiong has been appointed Press Secretary to the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
Effiong worked with the Magazine for 14 years, rising through the ranks as an Advertisement Executive to become the Special Projects Manager and subsequently the Advertisement Manager of the organisation.
He was also the Chairman of Federated Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State for five years and is presently a member of the State Working Committee of the union.
Until his appointment Mr. Emmanuel Effiong was Chief Executive Officer of Fountain Media Group, publishers of UPDATE NEWSPAPERS, a local tabloid in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
A native of Mbiakong in Uruan Local Government of Akwa Ibom State. He holds an HND in Mass Communications from the Polytechnic Calabar, Cross River State. Mr. Emmanuel Effiong is married and the union is blessed with children.
While wishing Mr. Emmanuel Effiong the very best in his new assignment, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey urged him to bring to bear his wealth of experience in piloting the affairs of the Media Unit of the People’s Assembly.

Office of the Speaker states that Mr. Effiong appointment in with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, a goodwill message signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the State Council of NUJ, Elder Patrick Albert Comrade and Amos Etuk on behalf of the Union congratulated Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey on his emergence of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
“We convey the warmest fraternal greetings of the leadership and entire members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council to you on your emergence as the Speaker of the 7th Assembly of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
“We have explicit confidence in your capacity to lead the House in its legislative duties towards the development of Akwa Ibom State successfully throughout your tenure,” it added. ”
The message also thanked the Speaker for the appointment of Mr. Emmanuel Effiong, as the Press Secretary.
The Union expressed confident that Mr. Effiong’s wealth of experience would boost the media relations and sustain the cooperation between the Media and Legislature in the State.
