Several houses were on Sunday night razed and other valuables destroyed when armed bandits suspected to be herdsmen attacked Tudiri village in Ardo Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The state Police Command on Monday confirmed the attack, which Sunday night raised tension in Jalingo, the state capital and led to the destruction of some valuables.
Spokesman of the Police command, DSP David Misal in a statement said no life was lost but some shops were looted.
But an eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity said one person was killed.
According to the police, “at about 1800hrs heavily armed bandits on motorcycles invaded Tudiri Village via Jauro Yinu ward, Ardo Kola LGA who set houses ablaze.
“The command immediately mobilized patrol teams to the area, but before their arrival the hoodlums have fled to the bush.
“It is unfortunate that some youths being apprehensive of the development blocked Nukkai, Kasuwan Bera, ATC highway Jalingo and set disuse tyres on fire.
“Consequently, three vehicles, two motorcycles and three Tricycles were burnt, but with the timely intervention of security operatives,the situation was brought under control.
“No death was recorded and the situation is closely monitored by the security agencies in a bid to forestall any further breakdown of law and order,” He said.
Speaking on the incident, Mr Bala Dan Abu, the Senior Special Assistant to Gov Darius Ishaku on Media and Publicity said the state government had already deployed enough security to restore normalcy in the area.
While normalcy is gradually returning to the state capital, some residents in the affected areas were seen moving their valuables to other areas parts of Jalingo.
