*threatens to picket media houses owing salaries

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council after its June, Congress held at the SWAN secretariat, National Stadium, Lagos over the weekend has concluded plans to host a security summit in the South West.
In the meeting chaired by the Chairman, Dr. Qasim Akinreti,Vice President zone B, Comrade Cosmas Oni alongside it’s exco members and members of the great council after extensively deliberation on crucial issues affecting the union, the Pen Profession and the nation at large, resolved that the spate of insecurity in the country is now assuming a frightening & alarming dimensions in the South West.
The Congress in session announced plans to organise a Security and Economic Summit in collaboration with the Governors of the South West towards proferring solutions to the insecurity challenges facing the region some media houses including AIT, Vanguard and Thisday are owing members up to three to 12months salary arrears.
The union threatened that failure of the debtor Media Houses to pay their workers will lead to decisive actions including Picketing.
On the maiden June 12 celebrations by the Federal Governemnt, the Union expressed delight with the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari to rename the National Stadium Abuja after late MKO Abiola.
The Congress in session also congratulated the newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila with the believe that the Nation will witness improved Executive-Legislative relationship in the Ninth Assembly.
