Ibom Air Employment Racketeering: Police Confirm Arrest Of Suspect



Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Dignity Lazarus who defrauded some persons in the state on a pretend of offering them employment at the Ibom Airline.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Odiko MacDon who confirmed Lazarus arrest said the command has commenced a full scale investigation into the matter before he will be charged to court.

MacDon who spoke on a telephone with our Correspondent in Uyo on Monday said more victims of Lazarus’s crime have come visited the command headquarters at Ikot Akpan Abia in Uyo to state their ordeals of how they were duped.

The suspect who was arrested at Emerald Lounge, Osongama Estate, on Saturday was said to have crooked his victims that he is the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Employment Matters.

According to them, Lazarus used Emerald Lounge, a popular event centre in Uyo as his meeting point to defraud his unsuspecting victims and has already given fake employment letter to over 100 persons while promising many others before luck ran out of him.

He was said to have fraudulently collected from his victims between 100,000 to 250,000 to help them secure a job with Ibom Air.

Luck ran out of Lazarus when he attempted to dupe someone close to former Commissioner for Ministry of Special Duties, Mr. Akan Okon whose ministry is supervising the affairs of Ibom Airline.

It was learnt that the person on sighting the fake Ibom Air employment forms swiftly alerted the relevant authorities and this led to his arrest by the police.
