The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state and governor Willie Obiano of destroying the existing equity arrangement of political offices and other appointments in the state.
Addressing journalists in Awka, the state spokesperson for PDP, Mr Nwangwu wondered why the Governor, Willie Obiano who is a beneficiary of the same arrangement will suddenly turn around with his political party to destroy a system that has ensured that every zone is well represented in the governance of the state.
Nwangwu described the situation as worrisome noting that market leadership in the state are also being restructured to favour the Northern zone in the state.
He said, “The political intrigues sponsored by APGA and the governor which eventually led to the emergence of Hon Uche Okafor from Ayamelu local government area as the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly is very unfortunate.”
According to him, the emergence of Hon Okafor from the ruling party in Anambra State and Obiano’s zone has shown their disregard for equity arrangement which has kept the state in perfect equilibrium.
Nwangwu observed that the governor had recently arm twisted the President Generals in different towns and communities under the auspices of ASATU to make the PG of his home town, Aguleri their chairman.
He added, “The governor is from the North, the chairman of all the PGs in the state is from the North, now APGA and Obiano has Midwifed the emergence of another Anambra North person as the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, there is no need for us to wait for a soothsayer to tell us that APGA and Obiano are out to take everything to the Northern zone of the state.
“Gov Obiano is from Anambra North zone, the deputy governor is from the Central senatorial zone, the chairman of ASATU is from the North senatorial zone, now the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly is equally from the North, one would have expected APGA and Obiano to respect the existing long standing equity arrangement by allowing the South senatorial zone to produce the Speaker.”
While insisting that APGA’s attack on equity arrangement in the state is a ploy to mess with the spirit of togetherness which the state is known for, the PDP spokesman appealed to the good people of the state not to support a government that is bent on destabilising a system that affords every zone a sense of belonging.
