About forty thousand rice farmers across Niger State are to benefit from Nigeria’s apex bank’s Anchor Borrowers dry and wet seasons farm input loan scheme for the current 2019 season.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) has a running farmers’ credit facility and farm inputs programme where funds and farm inputs including seedlings, fertilizers, insecticide, herbicide, farm implements and tools among other inputs are provided to farmers as soft loan to boost agricultural productivities.
Chairman of Rice Farmers Association in Niger State, Idris Abeni Kiribo said at the distribution of the farm input to members of the associate in the zone B district of the state that the distribution of the farm input was coming at an early time in the season to make beneficiaries put them to good use.
Speaking at Maikunkele area of Bosso Local Government Area of the state during the flag off distribution of the farm inputs for rice farmers in zone B district of the state, Idris Abeni Kiribo commended the CBN for its commitment and determination to give rice farmers in the state the proper support and encouragement to excel in their production so as to attain self sufficiency in rice production.
Commissioner of Agriculture in Niger State, Nuhu Duku praised the timely release of the farm input to rice farmers in the state.
The Commissioner was represented at the occasion by his Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Garba Musa who explained that Niger state was endowed with fertile land suitable for the cultivation of several cash and food crops.
He reaffirmed the support of the present administration in the state to all agricultural support programmes from the CBN and other key players and stakeholders.
A representative of the CBN, Hussaina Mohammed, cautioned all beneficiaries of the farm inputs against selling them to marketers for profiteering.
She advised the leadership of the Rice Farmers Association to ensure that the farm inputs reach the targeted persons.
Items distributed to members of the association at the flag off exercise include rice seeds, fertilizer, insecticide, hand gloves, farm boots, sprayers among other items.
