NSCDC Apprehend Undergraduate, 9 Others Over Alleged Cyber Crime

A 100 level Accounting student of Lead University, Ibadan and nine other suspects have been arrested in Lagos by operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over alleged involvement in cyber crime activities.
The suspects were said to have been nabbed at their business hideout in Ojodu Berger area of the state.
Parading the suspects Thursday at the command’s  headquater,  Ikeja,  the Commandant  Mr Tajudeen Balogun  said  they were arrested following a compliant by a victim.
Balogun said the suspects were between the ages of 19 and 29, stressing that the a Toyota Camry saloon car with Reg. No.  EPE406FN,  nine different laptops, 16 phones, two debit cards and Airtel modem were recovered from them.
Other items recovered from the suspects, according to him,  include one Orange  Wi-Fi, 11 laptops chargers, two extension  boxes, some substance suspected to be Indian hemp  and charms.
“On May 22, the State Command got an information on a case of abduction,  assault and cybercrime, this was as a result of tip off from a victim, one Demini Emmanuel.
“The victim claimed he was abducted, assaulted and forced to engage in cyber crime since  January 2019.The Command swung into action and arrested 10 suspects from  No. 14b, Animashaun street,  Progressive Estate,  Ojodu Berger, Lagos,” Balogun said.
Balogun assured that the command  will not rest on it’s oars in ridding Lagos  of crimes, stressing that the suspects will be handed over to the  appropriate authority for prosecution.
He advised parents, landlords to report  any suspicious  activities in their areas to the corps and other security agencies.
In a chat with journalists at the parade, the ring leader,  one Frank Chinedu,  22 years  old,  who claimed to be a 100 level student of Lead University, confessed to the crime.
The suspect claimed he had been in the business for more than a year,  stressing that he had made more than N3 million between January and April.
He debunked the allegation that the other suspects were his kidnapped victims, saying they voluntary apprentice  of cyber crime,  hence they were found in his house.
