Oyo Workers Set For Fresh Indefinite Strike, Gives Govt 24-hr Ultimatum

With seven days to the end of the 8years tenure of Governor Abiola Ajimobi as the governor of Oyo state, Civil servants in the State on Thursday threatened a fresh indefinite strike within the next  24hours.

The Civil servants in a letter addressed to the out going governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi titled “Re -72 hours Ultimatum Thereof”, vowed to embarked on the indefinite strike if the state government failed to meet with their demands.

Oyo Civil Servants in the  letter jointly signed by the Oyo state Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Ibrahim Mohammed and the state’s Joint Negotiations Council, (JNC), Chairman, ,Comrade Lukman Balogun, listed their demands as” Payment of at least one month arrears of financial benefit of promotion to primary school teachers, Payment of at least one month to Local Governments who are in arrears, ( Lagelu, Surulere and Ibadan North West”. Payment of the remaining arrears of salary to JOHESU members”,  “Immediate enhancement of security within the State.Hospital,  Ring Road, Ibadan”.

The workers  in the letter also asked the state government to” Direct the Governing Board of.LAUTECH Teaching Hospital to reinstate the sacked workers at the hospital and release letters of promotion up to 2016, as being enjoyed by other sectors in the state”.

According to the workers in the letter, if  the state government failed to meet up with the  demands. ” the leadership of all unions in the Public Service in Oyo state shall not be able to guarantee industrial peace and harmony in the state, effect from Friday, May, 24. 2019″.

” in the light of the above, if.all our demands are not met within 24hours, the leadership of all unions in the Public Service in Oyo state shall not be able to guarantee industrial peace and harmony in the state effect from Friday, 24 May, 2019″.

The Civil Servants in the letter acknowledged the commitment of the state government to the welfare of workers especially with the ” upgrading of the directorate cadre from grade level 16 to grade level 17, in tandom with the Scheme of Service in the Federal Civil Service level, Lifting embago placed on lateral conversion and transfer across all cadre in the public service and immediate payment of May, 2019 salary/pension to all workers and pensioners in Oyo State.

Emphasizing the need for an “enabling circular and necessary documents supporting item 1 and 2” within the new ultimatum, the workers  maintained  that further “to this, the government is expected to meet” their demands in order to avert impending industrial action across the state
