Niger State Government has procured over 20,000 tonnes of fertilizers for resale to farmers in the state for this year’s cropping season.
Each bag of the farm input would be sold at subsidised price of N5,500 as part of the state government’s deliberate intervention to encourage farmers across the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Haruna Nuhu Duku said the commodity would be distributed to all the the twenty five council areas in the state for sale to the end users.
He spoke to newsmen at the Government House Minna shortly after the state’s weekly executive council meeting.
Haruna Nuhu Duku explained that the present administration in the state would continue to support and encourage farmers in the state to boost their agricultural productivities.
He said the price of each bag was subsidized by the state government to enhance the availability of the farm input to farmers.
The Commissioner reiterated the state government’s resolve to make farming much easier so as to scale up food and cash crops production for food security in the state.
He cautioned against underhand by those involved in the distribution and sale of the commodity even as he charged farmers to cash in on the government’s intervention to purchase the farm input promptly before the commencement of the second term of the present administration.
He warned that anyone caught reselling the farm input purchased from the state government and at higher price would be penalized appropriately.
The Commissioner applauded the state government’s similar gesture in acquiring farm tractors for resale to farmers or the state’s tractor hiring scheme which he noted has been helped to farmers who availed themselves of the programmes.
