Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Shina Olukolu on Tuesday advocated cordial relationship between the police and journalists in sustaining peace and security in Oyo State.
CP Olukolu who made the call in Ibadan during his courtesy visit to the Secretariat of the Correspondents Chapel of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) also charged journalists in the state to fully support the police in combating criminal activities in the state.
The CP emphasized that one of the reason for his visit was to appreciate the contribution of the Oyo NUJ Correspondents chapel towards the successful conduct and adequate reportage of the just concluded general election in the state.
“There should be cordial relationship between the police and journalists in sustainance of peace and security in Oyo State, let us all collectively build up security in this state so that we can have a peaceful environment,”he said.
The Police Commissioner maintained that there is the need for journalists in the state to continue to support as well as assist the police in ensuring security of lifes and properties in the state.
“Without journalists, member of the public may not know what is going on in the town, let us all play our role in ensuring a peaceful atmosphere, the police is ready to work with you, we are all here to serve the members of the public and to ensure security in this state.”
CP Olukolu then tasked journalists in the state to be professional in their reportage, noting that the police is alway ready to perform their constitutional responsibilities which is safety of lifes and properties of the citizen.
Welcoming the Police Commissioner, the Correspondents Chapel Chairman, Pastor Ola Ajayi assured that the police shall continue to enjoy the maximum cooperation and symbiotic relationship of the Correspondents Chapel.
