Four-member one chance robbery syndicate has been nabbed by police operatives attached to Operation Puff Adder who swooped on them at the Upper Iweka in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State.
Suspects include, 34-year-old Chiemezie Udoye of Umuomaku, Anambra State, Chinenye Okonkwo, aged 30 years of Awowmamma in Imo State, Friday Nweze, aged 29 years of Nnenwe in Enugu State and Chijioke Oforkalu, aged 25 years, an indigene of Ihediowa Arochukwu in Abia State.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Haruna Mohammed said that the suspects are members of “One chance robbery syndicate terrorizing Onitsha and environs particularly at Upper Iweka and Housing Estates gate along Onitsha -Asaba Express way.
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that suspects have been in the business of one chance robbery for long using white and yellow coloured Mitsubishi L300 Bus REG No XD 364 AGL also recovered to perpetrate the crime in the area.
According to Mohammed, the suspects had robbed two ladies of their handsets and other valuables shortly before their arrest.
He said case is under investigation after which suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.
Similarly, the Command operations Puff Adder and Special Anti Cult unit (SPACS) also carried out series of Raids on Criminal hideouts at various locations within the state as follows,
“On 11/05/2019 at Aguleri/Umueri axis, 75 suspected cultists arrested. On 12/05 /19 at Nando/Nteje axis, 12 suspected cultists arrested. 0n 13/05/19 at Igbariam/Ukwulu axis, 08 suspected cultists arrested.
“On 14/05/19 at AWKA town, 11 suspected cultists arrested. On 15/05/19, at Ogidi, 08 suspected cultists arrested. On 16/05/19, at Obosi , 11 suspected cultists arrested.
“On 17/05/19, at Okija , 05 suspected cultists arrested . On 18/5/19,at Okpuno, 04 suspected cultists arrested. On 19/5/10 at Osumenyi, 08 suspected cultists arrested respectively.
“From all the raids carried out, a total number of 75 suspects were arrested. 25 suspects were screened out, 22 suspects were charged to court. 11 were placed under police supervision, while 17 others are under investigation.
Exhibits recovered from suspects include, one bag containing dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp , three barretts, three improvised bunker for inhaling substances suspected to be cocain.
