The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has directed primary school teachers in public schools across Oyo State to embark on an indefinite strike.
NUT in a statement jointly signed by its Oyo State Chairman, Mr Adedoyin S. T. and Secretary, Mr N Abdulai mandated the teachers to stay away from their various schools to press home their demand for the state government to address issues related to promotion and leave grant.
According to the NUT,.the strike followed continued neglect and pains that primary school teachers were subjected to in Oyo state.
The NUT in the statement gave other reasons for the strike to include non-implementation of the approved promotion benefits to public primary school teachers from 2011 to 2016, non-payment of 2018 leave grant to primary school teachers.
NUT added that “the teachers are downing tools over delay in the promotion of primary school teachers from salary grade level 14 to 15, as well as delay in payment in payment of salary of primary school teachers. Furthermore, the industrial action is to disapprove of the allegation of over-payment of salary due to irregular promotions.
