The Child Development Grant Programme (CDGP), a Department For International Development (DFID) funded implemented by Save the Children International (SCI) has brought succour to over 52,393 pregnant women in Zamfara State.
This was disclosed by the Save The Children State Team Leader, Alhaji Tanko Muhammad Langaya at the presentation of certificates of recognition to some Community Volunteers (CVs) at then close out ceremony of the CDGP in Anka local government area of Zamfara state.
Langaya said the CDGP will wind up finally in July after successfully being implemented where 52,393 pregnant women across 527 communities in Anka and Tsafe local government areas of the state benefited from the programme, which started in 2014.
“In Anka LGA, we supported 19,534 pregnant women in 194 communities with N4000 cash transfer to enable them get and eat nutritional food from conception of pregnancy to two years after delivery to ensure proper growth and avoid the child from stunting”, he said.
Langaya said the main target of the CDGP programme was to ensure effective child care, growth and development and from all indications from the two local government areas where the programme are implemented, there are tremendous improvement in the beneficiaries.
“From the testimonies of the Community Volunteers and the beneficiaries the CDGP has brought a lot of improvement in the communities where the programme was implemented”, he said.
