CBN Encourages Women To Apply For Loans

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Bauchi has encouraged women in the state to apply for loans from the bank to set up businesses for self-sustenance.

A senior staff of the bank, Shu’aibu Baba Ahmad assured the women that CBN will give them special considerations while giving out the loans.

Ahmad was speaking during an orientation programme for the second phase of Digital Livelihood for Women and Girls organized by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) held Monday in Bauchi.

He said that one of the loans being spurted by the bank is Micro Enterprises Development Fund where a beneficiary can access up to N10 million and repay in seven years with 5% interest.

Alhaji Shu’aibu Ahmad explained that applicants do not need to present collaterals to qualify for the loans, but should only introduce a traditional ruler or a clergyman in their respective areas as grantors.

According to him, the bank also grant agricultural loans to farmer under the ‘Anchor Borrowers’ programme.

He disclosed that the 2019 wet season farm inputs for rice farmers in the state will commence today Tuesday by the bank.

CITAD Executive Director, Yunusa Zakari Ya’u has earlier said that his organization planned to train 50 young women and girls in Bauchi state on information communication technology (ICT) skills under a project known as Digital Livelihood for Young Women and Girls.

Ya’u told participants of the second phase of the orientation programme held at NUJ Press Centre, Bauchi that the training has the support of Digital Equal Skills Foundation.

Represented by the Bauchi state CITAD training officer, Ahmed Yakasai, the executive director said the organization seek to empower citizens through laudable programmes coming up in the future.

CITAD Bauchi Program Officer, Mohammed Chiroma has in a welcome address said that the idea behind the training is to teach women on how to use information communication technology to boost their businesses, as well as equip them with business skills.

Participants of the training were drawn from different parts of the state which programme will last for a period of one month.
