Cross River State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade has ordered the cancellation of allocation of cocoa farms currently undertaken by the State Cocoa Allocation Committee.
The order was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Christian Ita.
The statement quoted Ayade as instructing that the cancellation takes effect immediately.
Sources close to allocation committee told the New Nigerian Online correspondent that the cancellation might not be unconnected with alleged “irregularities associated with the allocation by some members of the committee”.
Some Cocoa farmers had written series of petitions fingering some of the committee members using fake names to allocate Cocoa farms to themselves or their close relationship.
The governor, our investigation reveals might probe the committee if the allegations were found to be corrected and those found guilty will be dealt with.
