Fourty Eight ABU Students Receive Chinese Scholarship

Fourty Eight students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria have received a scholarship for China-Nigeria friendship initiated by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Zhou Pingjiang.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the University Assembly Hall in Samaru, represented by the Deputy Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Zhao Yong said, the scholarship is given to reward excellent students in a few chosen universities which ABU is one of them
He said last year it was 47 students who benefited, but this year it is 48 students because it goes with the same number of years of China-Nigeria relationship.
According to the Ambassador, China-Nigeria  strategic partnership is increasingly enhanced, which initiated the October 1st Scholarship for China – Nigeria.
He said since the establishment of the diplomatic ties in 1971 and strategic partnership in 2005 in particular between China and Nigeria, the friendship and cooperation between China and Nigeria have delivered tangible benefits to the nation’s
On the investment, Dr. Zhou Pingjiang said the accumulated China financial investment in Nigeria approaches $ 2.8 billion which contributes significantly to local economy and job creation.
“In terms of trade ,the bilateral trade volume between the two countries soared to $ 15.3 billion in 2018, 10.8% higher than the previous year “.
“Nigeria is now China’s largest engineering contracted projects market, the second largest export market,the third largest trading partner and major investment destination in Africa”.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Garba said the China – Nigeria relationship has attained a high position in every aspect of the partnership.
Prof. Garba noted that China has been very supportive and it encourages their students to put in their best in academic activities.
He hoped that the bilateral agreement with China will continue to last forever.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director University Advancement, Professor Ahmed Adamu said the beneficiaries are 200 Level from all the faculties and among them three students have scored 5.00 GPA.
After the presentation, the Ambassador Commissioned Language Laboratory and Confucius Garden  at the Facility of Arts.
