Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar is seeking for evaluation of security activities in the fight against banditry in the state.
Yari who was speaking at the launch of Operation Puff Adder by the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammad Adamu on Wednesday in Gusau, said it is only when security activities by security personnel are evaluated that the successes or otherwise of such operation can be ascertain.
The governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Abdullahi Muhammad Shinkafi said sadly that over 5000 people have been killed with over 9000 sustaining injuries in the last six years when the banditry activities became rampant in the state.
“If we must know either we are making successes in the fight against banditry or not, we must put in place time frame to check and evaluate our level of performance”, he said.
Launching the Operation Puff Adder, the IGP represented by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG), zone 10 comprising of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, Alhaji Muhammad Mustapha said is being launched to rid the state of bandits, kidnappers and other criminal activities.
“We are set to rid the state of all criminal elements through this operation puff adder”, he said.
Earlier, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Celestine Okoye said the operation will be carried out in collaboration with all the security agencies as well as members of the Civilian JTF.
“To this end, well trained , equipped and motivated personnel with operational assets will be deployed to strategic locations, flashpoints and on highways to curb the excesses of criminal elements in the state”, he said.
It will be recalled that Operation Puff Adder a new robust operation of the acting IGP to rid the country of criminals was formally launched by the IGP in Kaduna state on 5th of this month.
