Tragedy struck at Onipepeye area, along Lagos Ibadan expressway, Ibadan. Ibadan on Thursday as two yet to be identified persons were burnt to death in a petrol tanker fire inferno.

Eye witness account said trouble started at around 2pm when the driver of the fuel tanker said to be coming from Lagos was about to overtake a commercial Nissan Micra taxi but in the process lost control resulting in the tanker fallen off the road and fell
According to the eyewitness, few minutes after this, the spill over of fuel from the fallen fuel tanker quickly spread across road after which a loud explosion was heard on catching fire from one pit under Onipepeye bridge.
At this juncture, the eyewitness said a thick flames with heavy smoke enveloped the area forcing those in the nearby to run for safety.
New Nigerian learnt that the two people that were burnt to death got trapped in the inferno while attempting to escape from the scene of inferno.
The Eye witness said all efforts to get to the Oyo state Fire Brigade on time failed, saying, “we called the fire service personnel to come and rescue the situation before the fire started but it took them more than good forty minutes before they arrived, and by the time they got here, the fire had already burned two people till death.”
Contacted, the Oyo state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Lawrence Fadeyi confirmed the inferno, saying “a trailer loaded with premium motor spirit otherwise known as PMS fell down at Onipepeye, along Lagos-Ibadan express way, two people were burnt to death, as a result of the inferno, along side with three vehicles and one motorcycle.
