A renowned Kano based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Sulaiman and five other clerics of Jamma’atul Izalatul Bidi’a Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) have been rescued from kidnappers through a joint operation of the Nigerian Army, Police and Department of the State Security Service (DSS) in Katsina State.
Briefing journalists at the headquarters of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Katsina metropolis, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Lukman Omoniyi said the Islamic clerics were kidnapped on March 14, this year along Kakumi -Kankara road in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
He explained that, immediately the incident occurred, a marching order was given by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Tukur Burutai for the 17 Brigade in Katsina to carry out operation and rescue the kidnapped victims.
Consequently, he said the operation was structured to reflect robust synergy with relevant security agencies and the Directorate of Military Intelligence provided actionable intelligence and constant guidance for the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and finally the Kidnapped Victims were rescued from the Kidnappers by 0058 hours earlier today, March 27, this year.
Brigadier General Omoniyi said all the kidnapped clerics were intact and in good conditions of health as ascertained by the medical examination conducted on them at the 17 Brigade Medical Center in Katsina.
General Omoniyi reaffirmed the commitment of 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army to provide safety of lives and property in addition to mutual understanding and respect with relevant security agencies.
He reiterated the 17 Brigade’s maximum support and cooperation to the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Burutai.
Brigadier General Lukman Omoniyi charged People of Katsina State to cooperate and provide timely information to the 17 Brigade for its security obligation’s.
Shortly after the press briefing, General Lukman Omoniyi conveyed and handed over the clerics to their families through the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman at his palace.
Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman who offered special prayers for the present government under President Muhammad Buhari, as well as for peace and unity of the country, thanked the security agencies for their efforts.
Officials of the Katsina State Chapter of Jamma’atul Izalatul Bidi’a Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) under the State Chairman, Sheikh Yakubu Musa and host of others were among the personalities at the Emir’s Palace in Katsina to receive the rescued clerics.
