The Ibos in Benue State have spoken with one voice in support for the call for the ruling party to support Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya (APC Kano South) to become the next Deputy President of the Senate.
An impeccable source confirms to our reporter that the call to support the Kano South senator becomes vociferous because of what the Ibos termed as “show of solidarity” for Ndigbo as Senate Committee chairman for Works over erosion in the south-east.
A very influential business Ibo man confided that the ruling decides otherwise, it will become clearer that the promise of Igbo presidency by ruling party in 2023 is just a deceit.
Our man gathered that Igbos is pleased with Senator Gaya’s humanness as a federal lawmaker adding that an autonomous community in Enugu State realising this fact, honoured the senator last year with a chieftaincy title because of his contributions to the South-East.
The source further said that it is the belief of Igbos that if Senator Gaya becomes the deputy senate president, the aspiration of Igbos in the ruling party will become a hope come true.
They appealed to the ruling party that any other candidate for the deputy Senate presidency could be a slight on the Igbo nation.
Contacted on the issue, an Ibo leader in Benue who never wanted his name in print said that he has not met with the senator one on one on life, but believe that the former Kano governor is a man to be trusted any day and time.
He joined his voice with those that have called on the ruling APC to avoid the mistake of 2015 and elect all APC members as principal officers of the both houses of the national assembly for speedy development and the “change” agenda that brought the party to power in 2015.
He said that if the APC fails to deliver in their second term, there will no excuses. He therefore called on the APC to see the senator’s loyalty to the party, his belief on President Buhari’s vision for Nigeria, the record and experience of Senator Gaya as deputy senate president to take Nigeria to the next level of development.
