PDP Alleges Oppression In Niger Delta



Nigeria’s main opposition party, ,the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over alleged mass arrest of its leaders in the Niger Delta region mainly in; Akwa Ibom, Delta and Rivers States by the military ahead of the forthcoming governorship and State Assembly polls on 9th March.

The party has recently accused the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and the ruling party,  All Progressives Congress (APC) of heating up the polity especially in the Niger Delta region.

The statement alleges; “In Rivers State, leaders of the PDP are being hounded and forcefully picked up in a well-coordinated operation by military operatives attached to the Director of Buhari Campaign Organization who also doubles as Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.

“Our party has received reports on how soldiers led by one Major Mustapha Bello from Sokoto Division under the directives of Rotimi Amaechi manhandled arrested and took away the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Mr Tam Gogo Jaja to an unknown destination”

In the aforementioned respect the PDP is drawing the attention of Nigerians and the international community to the ugly development and also to note the strong provocation meted on the people of the Niger Delta thus pushing them to precipice.

The main opposition party  demands the immediate release of all its arrested members in the region as well as an end to military aggression.
