Unified Nigerian Youth Forum (UNYF), has observed with delight the commitment of the Zamfara State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Asmahu Sani Maikudi for conducting a credible presidential and National Assembly election in the state in spite of its security challenges.
The president, Unified Nigerian Youth Forum, Abdulsalam Mohammed Kazeemn a statement issued in Kaduna said, “The continuous call for the transfer of Dr. Asmahu Sani Maikudi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner by some selected few individuals further shows the credibility in the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections conducted by INEC in Zamafa State.
“The refusal of the Recident Electoral Commissioner (REC) and her officials to dance to their usual bidding at any rate has resulted to blackmail, since that is what they have in stocks, similar call made for the removal of Amina Zakari at the national headquarters of INEC is still lingering in the minds of Nigerian, it’s a mare replica that is baseless.
“Why is it that we Nigerians don’t want any woman to hold any sensitive position of responsibilities or is it that the Sharia compliance is now into play in zamfara state?
“We as a forum we have received numerous calls from different organizations all over the country showing their displeasure over the aboved subject matter, which they are set to make a public protest over what they tag a gender bias.”
The statement added, “We as a forum, we decided to observed elections in Rivers, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna and Zamfara states considering the fact that the states engulfed with one form of crisis or the other ( absence of complete peace), but to our greatest surprised electoral materials where distributed timely with the support of security agencies in the presence of all stakeholders in Zmfara State.”
The forum noted that the call by the candidate of PDP, APGA and NRM for the transfer of the REC should be ignored by the leadership of INEC.
“We call on all security agencies and the presidency that should anything happen to Dr. Asmahu Maikudi, any electoral officer, Corp member, youth and students in Zamfara state before, during and after the governorship election in the state, the said candidates of the above mentioned political parties will be held responsible.
“The call for the postponements of both governorship and state assembly elections in zamfara state scheduled for March 9, 2019, by the candidate of National Rescue Movement (NRC) on a Audio file sent to daily trust and other prominent median houses is a sign of accepting defeat psychologically.
“The said Audio clip is trending already in social media and can further trigger the peace Zamfara State and the nation at large. We call for immediate arrest of Senator Mohammed Dansadau of NRM for promoting hate speech which is morally wrong because the same audio clip can lead to complete breakdown of law and order.”
