The insistence of APC Candidate Yusuf Dahiru Liman in the next Saturday State Assembly Election to take his campaign to Kurmin Gwari, a suburb in Kaduna South Local Government of Kaduna State left several people injured.

The thugs in the convoy of the APC Candidate who is the incumbent Member representing Makera Constituency in Kaduna State House Of Assembly brandished knives and machetes as they were being chased out of Kurmin Gwari Ward by supporters of the SDP Candidate as they made their way via the Road linking Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (NDIC) to Kakuri Community Market where they destroyed cars parked on adjoining streets in the Area and looting shops in the process.

Hon Ezekiel Baba Karik , the SDP Candidate of Makera Constituency spoke with our correspondent on the skirmish capable of overheating the already tensed political temperature in the area exonerated his supporters of any blame and accused his opponent, the APC Candidate, Yusuf Liman of using thugs to disrupt his supporters from their “door-to-door campaign”.

According to him , ” my supporters were today afternoon carrying out “house to house” campaign in my ward , the Kurmin Gwari Ward. Suddenly, thugs in the campaign train of Yusuf Liman, the APC Candidate invaded my ward, beating and using machetes on my supporters, injuring several people in the process.”

This has been the antics and style adopted by this man ( Liman) , intimidation and harassment of electorate in my constituency, coercing them to gain their supports. Politics should be played according to laid down rules and procedures in the atmosphere of harmony. ” He said.

Ezekiel Baba however urged his supporters to remain peaceful and law abiding ahead of the Saturday’s elections.

Several calls to Liman’s phone to get his reaction on the incident were not successful as his lines were switched off.
