The Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland and former governor of Oyo State,  High Chief Rashidi Ladoja on Tuesday predicted that the  consensus governorship candidate of the Coalition of opposition political parties in the state, Engineer Seyi Makinde will win the March, 9 governorship election.

High Chief Ladoja said this at a joint  press conference of governorship candidates of the  African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Zenith Labour Party, (ZLP) Barrister Sharafadeen Alli and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, (SAN) held  at the Oyo state NUJ Press centre in Ibadan.

The ZLP National leader pointed out that the choice of Engineer  Makinde as consensus governorship candidate of the Coalition of opposition political parties in Oyo state “is to rescue the state from the hands of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).”

High Chief Ladoja maintained that the people of Oyo state would start witnessing real dividends of democracy with the coming of Engineer Makinde as the next governor of Oyo state, saying, Oyo state now need people oriented government.

“It is my pleasure to present to you the agreed candidate for the election, coming up on Saturday March 9, and who Insha Allah, will become governor-elect on that day, and will be subsequently sworn in  on May 29 as governor of Oyo State. He is my son. I present to you, Engineer Seyi Makinde.” he said.

Senator Olufemi Lanlehin of the ADC while presenting the Coalition’s resolution at the press conference said “it is no longer news that a good number of parties in Oyo state have deliberated intensely over the last few weeks and have come to the resolution that there is an urgent need to free our dear state from the shackles of outside oppression and domination”

“We have therefore decided that in order to present an effective and workable solution to the unpalatable situation where Oyo state has been remotely controlled for the past 8 years by outside forces and all manner of constituted authority, there is the need to form this alliance of political parties in the state. We have firmly resolved to present one candidate in the person of Engineer Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party for the office of Governor at the elections holding on 9th March, 2019”, he said

Senator Lanlehin added, “he shall be heading by the special grace of God and the power of the people of Oyo State, a government of unity which will cater for the
interest of all our people irrespective of political association”

Speaking further, Senator Lanlehin said, “in the interest of our thriving democracy, we have also resolved that the House of Assembly elections will be contested on party basis and all candidates in all the parties are encouraged to go to the polls and contest for the seats available in the Oyo state House of Assembly as scheduled.

“We make a clarion call on the good people of Oyo state to vote enmasse for the alliance candidate, Engineer Seyi Makinde so as to midwife an all inclusive government of unity that belongs to the people of Oyo state. We urge and encourage our people to reject the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its candidates in the state at he election and vote for our freedom and emancipation. The government of unity will be one that will meet all the aspirations of our people by fully applying all the resources of Oyo state for the development of Oyo state. We must reverse the present where all our resources are filtered away to external forces.”

The Coalition Consensus governorship candidate, Engineer Makinde lauded High Chief  Ladoja for his fatherly roles in making the coalition worked out and promised to uphold all that was agreed upon by all the stakeholders.

“History is actually being made here today. This is the political capital of Nigeria, not only of the South West. When we got ‘wild wild west,’ we pulled down the entire country. So, this is actually the political capital  of Nigeria. We have all gathered here to rescue our people with a common purpose. It has been a very hard period for us to negotiate this arrangement.I stand before you all to promise that the spirit and the intent of our coming together, by God’s grace, will be fully implemented when we get to government.” he said.

Engineer Makinde added, ” I am humbled because most of these gentlemen that have stepped down for me are even far more qualified than myself for this position. I feel humbled and I pray that we will not disappoint ourselves and we
will not disappoint the people of Oyo State.”

“What is at stake here are two major things. One, penultimate Saturdays, the people of Oyo South Senatorial district rejected Governor Abiola Ajimobi. Now, we call on the entire people of Oyo State to also reject him because Bayo Adelabu is third term for Senator Ajimobi. So, we ask the entire people of Oyo State, just like
Oyo South senatorial district had done to reject Governor Ajimobi, reject Adelabu, reject third term in Oyo State. The second issue at stake is that we want Oyo State money to stay in Oyo State.”

High Chief Rashidi Ladoja later presented Engineer Makinde to the teeming supporters and leaders of the Coalition of opposition political parties that stormed the Oyo NUJ press Centre venue of the joint press conference.

At the press conference were  prominent leaders of the political parties in the coalition   including the Senator-elect, Oyo South Senatorial District, Dr Kola Balogun, Honourable elect, for Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West federal constituency, Honourable Stanley Oladeji, Senator Hosea Agboola, Senator Kamoru Adedibu, Honourable Kehinde Ayoola, Honourable Segun
