Bauchi Guber: Over 30 Political Parties Gang-up Against Governor Abubakar

Immediate past Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State

The Wazirin Bauchi, Alhaji Muhammadu Bello Kirfi on Monday in Bauchi led 33 political parties including 20 gubernatorial candidates to support the governorship candidature of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Bala Mohammed ahead of this Saturday elections in the state.

The coalition was a grand design and renewed efforts by the opposition political parties in the state to unseat the incumbent state governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar in the polls.

It was the third in recent times that opposition political parties and stakeholders are meeting with the aim of unseating Governor Mohammed Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The parties, led by Elder statesman, Bello Kirfi unveiled their plans to support the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Bala Mohammed at the end of their meeting held at River Edge Hotel.

Alhaji Bello Kirfi named parties in the coalition to include United Progressive Party (UPP), Green Party of Nigeria (GPN), Change Advocacy Party (CAP), All Peoples Movement (APM), All Blending Party (ABP), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Action Joint alliance MAJA, and Advance People’s Democratic Alliance (APDA).

Others in the coalition are the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN), Accord Party (AP), Independent Democrats (ID), All Grand Alliance Party (AGAP), New Generation Party (NGP), Nigeria People’s Congress (NPC), Legacy Party of Nigeria (LPN), and Modern Democratic Party (MDP).

Also in the coalition include New Progressive Movement (NPM), Providence People Congress (PPC), People’s Trust (PT), Advance Allied Party (AAP), Alliance National Party (ANP), Alternative Party of Nigeria (APN), Alliance of Social Democrats (ASD), Change Nigeria Party (CNP), Congress of Patriots (COP), Liberation Movement (LM), New Progressive Movement (NPM), People’s Coalition Party (PCP), Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN), United Patriots (UP), Young Democratic Party (YDP) and APGA.

Kirfi explained that the effort was part of the continuation of their struggle to defeat the Governor and to support one single candidate who has the courage and resources to defeat Abubakar in the 2019 elections.

He observed that the people of Bauchi have a lot of confidence and respect for President Muhammadu Buhari, and that’s the reason why they gave him their votes again, and not because they were happy with happenings in the state.

A former state chairman of the ANPP, Alhaji Sani Shehu said the candidate they endorsed has all it takes to govern the state, and as a son of the soil will do his best to justify the confidence reposed in him.

PDP gubernatorial candidate who was represented by Alhaji Abubakar Kari thanked elder statesman Bello Kirfi for providing exemplary leadership style to the people of the state, and pledged to run an all-inclusive government.

Earlier, the parties and stakeholders at the occasion explained lack of good governance , poverty, decay in infrastructure, education, healthcare, environment, mismanagement of state resources, and lack of development in all sectors in the state in the last four years, as some of the factors that necessitated the coalition.

The parties explained that they had perfected plans to foil an alleged plan to rig the Saturday elections, saying they will engage their supporters to protect their votes during the polls.

Reacting to the development, the press secretary to the governor, Abubakar Al-Sadiq said, “We are not afraid with the threat by the coalition because we believe in Allah who gives power to whom he wishes, and we have high hope he will give it again to Governor Abubakar.

“Our mandate is not with the coalition but with the people of the state, and we are with the people and they will give their votes to Governor Abubakar”.

The press secretary therefore urged the people to vote wisely during the forthcoming elections like they did in 2015.
