The Returning Officer of the Imo West Senatorial Election Professor Innocent Ibeawuchi, has alleged that he declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the election, Governor Rochas Okorocha the winner under compulsion and duress, to save his daughter’s and
The returning officer, whose daughter was said to have been kidnapped by unknown gun men before the declaration of the result, stated that he was under compulsion to declare the result.
The Governor was said to have gotten 97,762 votes to topple Jones Onyereri of PDP who got 63,177 and Senator Osita Izunaso of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) who scored a total of 30,084 votes.
In another development, the PDP candidate for Njaba, Isu Nwangele Federal Constituency, and Kingsley Echendu had expressed dissatisfaction over the way and manner the result in the federal constituency was collated and announced.
He said, “The election was a disastrous one, the election was peaceful and the people were voting PDP, but when the result submitted by my rival in APC came around 1.30 am on Sunday, the result changed”.
According to him, ‘’they were inside one uncompleted building in Amaigbo and were thumb printing and doctoring the result. When they brought it to INEC office in Amaigbo what they did toppled the
original result of what people voted”.
He further said, “when we got hint of this, we tried to get to the place but the security operatives could not allow us entry into the
place, saying that if we advance that they will kill us.
Continuing, Echendu said, “We went and reported to the INEC in Amaigbo, worst of it all was that the complaint did not yield any positive result because they had accepted the doctored ballot papers
and result to declared my rival the winner”.
Again he added, “my happiness is that the results collated at the polling units in the federal constituency read that PDP was winning”.
Echendu therefore collected on the federal government to look in the matter, adding that he was ready to supply all relevant documents.
