Presidential Polls: Electorate Decry Delay In Polls Commencement

PDP Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and APC's President Muhammad Buhari

By VICTOR DAZANG, Kaduna                                                                                                        The 2019 Presidential election which commenced in the early hours of Saturday 23rd February, 2019 saw a different dimension at LEA Primary School in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State as diverse challenges stalled early commencement of the exercise.

In a brief interview with a youth corps member who pleaded anonymity, he lamented the delay on the release of materials.
“We have been delayed for some hours trying to   take consignment of due  materials   to this polling unit which is a dispatch unit before we distribute to other polling stations for voting to commence, besides considering the huge crowd of  eligible voters on the wait, I don’t think we can cope as in to conduct election for all of them”
Many polling units got their materials around 10 am which the electorate complained bitterly as voting has already started in many areas mostly in the Northern part of Kaduna city, according to reports.
Meanwhile, the electorate are exhibiting their commitment to persevere, no matter how long it would take them to cast their votes.
Mr Christian Zaki, an electorate waiting to cast his vote said, “I most vote my choice candidate despite any delay whether it would last until the late night.
In a related inquiry, New Nigerian gathered that the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) services have been hired by the Independent National Electoral Commission to convey electoral materials from the LEA Primary School, Sabo (being a dispatch centre) to other polling units whenever an urgent need arises, as confirmed by Mr David of NURTW.
