The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kaduna State command has said it will consolidate on the initial postings of its personnel to ensure security of electorate, INEC personnel, observers and safety of materials in February 23 elections.
While the command plans to maintain its postings with a view to improving on it, officers and personnel have been charged to remain apolitical, exercise high discipline and professionalism.
State Commandant of corps, Alhaji Modu Bunu made the disclosure while addressing operatives of the command preparatory for the rescheduled polls.
He urged them to be transparent and shun any form of inducement if any, warning that all of them will be responsible for their actions or inactions while on the field.
The Commandant said, ‘all personnel on field both uniform and undercover are to work in synergy with other sister agencies to provide general security for electorate, officials and materials.’
According to him, Nigerians and members of international community have high expectations on the conduct and performance of security agencies, we should not let them down.
Both local and international observers are looking unto us in 2019 elections and we must do our best to shun any temptation which may jeopardize the trust, instead, work assiduously and professionally to justify the confidence reposed in us, Bunu reiterated.
“I have directed the deployment of over 3600 NSCDC personnel in all the 23 Local Government Areas for the general elections in the State.
“Other duties expected of the corps shall include escort of personnel and materials, security at INEC offices located in the state capital, local governments, collation centers and polling units.
“All patrol vehicles, ambulances motorcycles are to be deployed in complementing efforts of personnel who may be stationed at different locations,” he said.
In order to discharge its duties effectively, the commandant called on all the good and peace loving people of the state to partner with the corps.
