As part of his efforts to put  smiles on the faces of the down trodden, the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Kaduna Central Senatorial candidate, Malam Uba Sani, at the weekend flagged off a free medical services for diabetic and hypertensive patients in the constituency.

The programme, run by the Uba Sani Foundation, targets over 3,000 diabetic and hypertensive patients in the Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone of the State.

Speaking at the flag-off exercise in Giwa, Uba Sani said it was aimed at controlling and reducing cases of diabetes and hypertension among people of the zone and the entire state.

Represented by the Director for NGOs in the APC Campaign Council for Zone II, Abubakar Rabiu, he said the over 3,000 patients were identified after several screening.

He said the foundation had assembled 15 health personnel including Medical Doctors, Nurses and Pharmacists to deliver services to the beneficiaries.

“The outreach is focused on less privileged persons in the affected LGAs including Giwa, Igabi, Chikun, Kajuru, and Birnin Gwari.

“Kaduna North and Kaduna South LGAs are excluded in the exercise, as the programme is to reach out to patients in rural areas, with less access to such medication.”

He said the foundation identified the two ailments because their medications are expensive and the less privileged do not have the needed funds for treatment.

Meanwhile, the foundation said it has so far trained over 2,000 women under its skills acquisition program in the senatorial zone.

Rabiu, who is also the Foundation’s Director of Programmes, said the women were trained in various skills including; soap making, air freshener, perfumes and petroleum jelly.

According to him, the beneficiaries were given startup oacks and grants to enable them set up their businesses across the seven LGAs of the Senatorial Zone.

Also, Chairman of Giwa Local Council, Alhaji Shehu Lawal, commended the APC Senatorial candidate for the kind gesture.

Lawal said the APC administration had just concluded similar outreach to hundreds of Hepatitis B and C patients in the LGA.

Lawal, represented by the Council’s Vice Chairman, Alhaji Rilwan Aminu, promised to give all needed support to ensure that more of such programmes came to people of the area.

The chairman urged the beneficiaries who are mostly women to adhere to the medication and doctor’s advice.
