Determined to ensure a free, fair, peaceful and credible general elections in the country, women in Kaduna engaged people, calling on all and sundry to ensure violence free election in all parts of the country.
The Deputy National Coordinator, Women Situation Room of Nigeria, WSRN, and founder, Zamani Foundation, Mrs Philomena Talatu Zamani, while speaking to all that gathered at the rally said the NGO was working tirelessly through sensitization to create awareness in the hearts of Nigerians on the need for peaceful elections in the country, stressing that that is the only way voters will come out in large number to elect candidates of their choice.
She explained, “l appeal women to ensure that the elections is peaceful. As peace markers, we have the capacity to discourage our youths, husbands and immediate communities to shun violence during this coming general elections.”
She urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the security personnel to remain non partisan and ensure that voters always conduct themselves in an orderly manner that would guarantee free and fair elections.
With over 500 women, men and youths in attendance, they displayed placards with the inscriptions; anything violence can do, peace can do better, give peace a chance, amongst many other messages that call for peaceful and understanding before, during and after the general elections.
They walked from Government Girls Secondary School, Takau to the nearest INEC office holding their placards with the various inscriptions in a peaceful manner for Nigerians to see and imbibe the spirit of peace in all spheres of life for unity and development in the country.
Mrs Talatu assured that the NGO would do its best within the few days to the elections to impact in the lives of Nigerians the need to desist from acts that could be detrimental to the aims and objectives of the NGO towards ensuring a peaceful elections.
She called on parents to educate their children not to allow anybody or politician use them into acts that could be counter productive to the overall interest of peace loving Nigerians.
